On October 26th 1984 I had broken my neck out in the desert close to town. After two hours of chaos and terror while ground based EMTs tried to figure out what to do with me, the chopper came, manuevered the high voltage lines and set down. It was like Patton had landed. Dave barked orders and cleared people out. He talked firmly to me but with an odd comfort in his voice. I remember my terrors evaporating as I sensed his command of the situation. It was remarkable. I knew I was rescued. I would live.
That was Dave's last mission as a DPS Paramedic. He was returning to patrol duty "to take it easy", weary of scraping people off the ground for so long.
He is my hero.
