Chief Ruth was shot and killed while investigating a murder from the previous day. The suspect ambushed Chief Ruth and shot him. The chief was taken to Nesbitt Hospital where he died of his wounds. The suspect committed suicide a short time later.
Chief Ruth had served with the Lehman Township Police Department for 5 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.
