Sergeant Blaser and Officer David Gabrielli were killed when they were struck by a vehicle while investigating an earlier drunk driving related accident. As they were standing in the median a car driven by another drunk driver swerved across two lanes of traffic and struck them both.

The driver of that vehicle had a BAC of .25. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison.

Sergeant Blaser had served with the agency for 10 years. He was survived by his wife, parents, and brother.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we mustrecognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 23rd anniversary year of your death. I am privilige to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
