Patrolman Rose was shot and killed while responding to an armed robbery on South Main Street in South Farmingdale. As he approached the scene he was shot by the suspect who was in the process of fleeing. The suspect was convicted of manslaughter and sent to jail. He died in jail shortly after being denied parole.

Patrolman Rose had been with the agency for one year.
