Officer Rooney was sitting in his car on 119th Avenue near 155th Street when another car pulled up next to his and a suspect inside of the car opened fire on him. Officer Rooney was struck in the back and left arm.
Two suspects were later apprehended and charged with murder. A third suspect was arrested and charged with contracting for the murder of Officer Rooney. That suspect wanted revenge against Officer Rooney, because Officer Rooney was responsible for having the suspects parole revoked.
Officer Rooney had served with the New York State Division of Parole for four years and was survived by his wife and son. |
