Sergeant Richard Romero was killed in a helicopter accident while working on a multi-agency narcotics task force. A car was spotted in a canyon and the helicopter began to descend when its rotor blades struck power lines and caused it to crash.

Also killed in the accident were Investigator Michael Davis of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Roy Chester of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Deputy James McSweeney of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and Deputy Mark Tonkin of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, and the three California National Guard crew members operating the flight.

Sergeant Romero was a 14-year veteran of the Imperial County Sheriff's Office.

Your brother Edward left this world on 01/01/2011. I know you were there with your mom to usher him into the presence of Our Lord and Savior. He is no longer in pain, but he is so missed and was loved so very deeply. I know one day I will see him, your mom and you all again. Until then take care of each other and know how deeply each one of you are loved and missed.
