William L. Rickabaugh

Police Officer William Rickabaugh was killed when he rode into a steel cable that had been strung across the entrance to a construction zone for an overpass on San Tomas Freeway.

He was responding to a report of a motorcycle driving on a dirt mount that was being used for the construction project. As he approached the scene on his motorcycle he struck the cable. The warning flags that had been attached to the cable had been removed by vandals.

Officer Rickabaugh was survived by his wife and two children.
