Police Officer Mickey Reidy was shot and killed in the stairway of his apartment building during a robbery attempt.

Officer Reidy began to struggle with the suspect and attempted to arrest him but was shot several times. Although mortally wounded, Officer Reidy was able to return fire but did not strike the suspect. The suspect was arrested three days later and after trial was convicted of Officer Reidy's murder.

On July 25th, 2003, the corner at which Officer Reidy was killed was officially renamed Police Officer Michael Reidy Pathway in his honor. Officer Reidy had only served with the New York City Police Department for six months and was assigned to the 41st Precinct. He was survived by his mother and five siblings.

It was my honor to research newspapers, magazines, online & books to find your Color ID CARD Photo. I found this photo of you in a 1987 NYPD MEDAL DAY BOOK about your heroic sacrifice. I felt it was necessary to have a photo on this website so that your family & friends can remember you. Rest Easy Hero! Always Remembered!
