Patrolman Harry Redlich was shot and killed during an arrest of an armed robbery offender at 9 S. Kedzie Avenue.
He was directing traffic when a citizen informed him that an advertising agency was being robbed. Patrolman Redlich rushed to the scene and apprehended one of the robbers.
While searching the offender for weapons, Patrolman Redlich was ambushed from behind by the second man who fired five shots and fatally wounded him.
The subject was convicted of Patrolman Redlich's murder. He was paroled in 1960.
Patrolman Redlich was survived by his wife and daughter.
