Patrolman James Redding was killed in an automobile accident while chasing a motorcycle. His patrol car went out of control about one mile south of the city and struck a tree on Kohler Mill Road. It is believed that the motorcycle he was chasing turned off its lights and Patrolman Redding swerved to avoid striking it as he came around a curve. He was transported to Hanover Hospital where he died one hour later.

The driver of the motorcycle was never identified.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the thirty third anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace. I pray for solace for your family.
