Patrolman Ray succumbed to gunshot wounds received one month earlier while responding to a burglary call. A store owner had arrived to work and discovered the burglary. The suspect, however, was still inside and robbed the man after he called police. Patrolman Ray was entering the store as the suspect attempted to flee and was shot twice by the suspect.

Patrolman Ray was survived by his daughter and two sons.

Tommy and I dated in our teenage years and I was so fond of his family.Then we went our separate ways and we both married and divorced but after 10 yrs or so he came looking for me and we reconnected but God called him home.He crosses my heart quiet often.Rest in peace Tommy with Buel,Mae, Hobert and J.B and Frost.
