Deputy Marshal Thomas Price succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained six years earlier while assisting a posse of revenue agents in a raid on stills near Monterey, Tennessee.
The posse was ambushed at approximately 4:00 am and Deputy Marshal Price was shot and seriously wounded. Two local police officers were also wounded. One suspect was wounded and taken into custody. Marshal Price became blind in one eye and partially paralyzed as a result of his wounds, which he never fully recovered from. His family moved to Dallas, Texas, where he died on January 14th, 1907.
Deputy Marshal Price was survived by his wife and several children.
