Officer Pocchio was shot and killed after he stopped a vehicle he suspected was stolen. Officer Pocchio spotted the vehicle inside of Branch's Brook Park in Newark and stopped it. Before he could exit his vehicle, the suspect opened fire, killing Officer Pocchio.
The suspect was apprehended and convicted of murder.
Officer Pocchio had served with the agency for 7 years.
