Police Officer Joseph Pocchio was shot and killed after he stopped a vehicle he suspected was stolen.

He spotted the vehicle inside of Branch's Brook Park in Newark and conducted a traffic stop. Before he could exit his vehicle, the driver opened fire, killing Officer Pocchio.

The subject was apprehended and convicted of murder.

Officer Pocchio had served with the Essex County Police Department for seven years.

JOE was a friend of mine. We work together at United Advertising Newark in early 1970,s Great Guy. We had a lot of fun on Bloomfield Ave in the Belmont Tavern, with Streach and the boys.
