Patrolman Pearce was killed in an accident when he was assaulted while transporting a prisoner to jail. He had just arrested the man for public intoxication and placed him in the rear of the cruiser, which did not have a cage. During the driver to jail the man reached around and grabbed Patrolman Pearce around the neck, causing the cruiser to strike a tree. Both Patrolman Pearce and the suspect were killed.

Your heroism and service is honored on this 57th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminisher respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
