No suspect or motive was ever identified in this murder.

Officer Ortiz was survived by his mother, three sisters and three brothers.

On today, the 54th anniversary of your murder, I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of New Mexico. There is no tougher job in Law Enforcement than that of a Corrections Officer.
