Patrolman Olivas was struck and killed by a drunk driver while investigating an earlier accident on I-25 near Las Vegas, New Mexico. He was struck while taking measurements at the accident scene. The suspect continued driving but was later arrested during a police search of the area. The suspect was charged with vehicular homicide.
Patrolman Olivas had been in law enforcement for seven years and was survived by his expectant wife and daughter. His wife gave birth to his son only three months after his death.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered. . I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace today. Veronica and Manuel, thanks for sharing a daughter and son's devotion to a beloved father.
