Detective Donald Manning was shot and killed while off-duty on a date. Detective Manning and his female friend were approached by five gang members who attempted to rob them. Detective Manning drew his gun and in exchange of gunfire Detective Manning was killed. All five suspects were convicted of murder.

Detective Manning had served with the agency for six years.

You are the reason I am here today. My life has been, and will forever be lived to the fullest because of you. God has given all of us a mission, and I am so grateful for the mission He chose for you. I will live on, because of you. Not a day has gone by that I haven't thought of you. I am now a teacher in special education, and have been able to help so many because you saved me. What a wonderful person you were, and continue to be by your guidance. You will always be thought of and missed.
