Patrolman Frederick Offenburger was killed in a single vehicle accident. He had been dispatched to assist a village officer on a woman screaming call while on patrol in the township. He was traveling on an unfamiliar road with curves and did not know about a bend in the road and struck a tree. Patrolman Offenburger died instantly.

Patrolman Offenburger was survived by his daughter. He is buried in the Wilson Cemetery, Licking County, Ohio.
