Deputy Null was shot and killed while investigating a robbery of a store the previous evening. Deputy Null had approached a parked vehicle to question its three occupants about the robbery. As he looked into the window he was shot twice by one of the suspects who was armed with a rifle. All three suspects were eventually arrested.
All three suspects, ages 20, 22, and 23, were convicted of first degree murder on November 20, 1935, and sentenced to life in prison.
