Life is unfair. Thank you APE for making the valley safe again.
I cried for you, and felt a sense of relief that we could be safe again. Thank you.

My students were comforted the ordeal was over.

I hope that your handler and other team members are comforted that you have made this a better world.

Thank you Ape. Words are hard to find but you have placed an imprint on my heart like that of my own dog CooperT. Your ultimate sacrifice for my community is testimony of the bonds we share with our furry friends. My family lives here in Herkimer County and when word came that this shocking event was occurring I remembered feeling like Sept. 11th. The place we've called home whether near or far in which we work, eat and sleep and attend ball games with our families was in the midst of such turmoil. You and your dedicated law enforcement teammates came through to restore peace again. We are healing and it will take time but your unconditional love and obedience was unbounded. My empathy extends to your partner/handler and those who met you from the moment you were born. You are now at the Rainbow Bridge with DeMilo, Buck and Rocket...On behalf of family, friends and myself we appreciate you Ape and all Local, State and Federal Agencies continuous support

Prayer for the Animals Rev. Weinstein ()

Gathered here, we pause to acknowledge our place in creation
and our responsibility to it.
We lift up grateful hearts to the Source of Life this day for the
infinite variety of creatures which make our own existence so much richer.
As human beings, stewards of the earth, we extend our blessings to our brothers and sisters of fur and claw, wing and fin, scale and hoof, paws and feathers.
We promise to live with them in harmony as best we can,
to be respectful of the fact that we share the planet together,
and to refrain from exploiting them to selfish or abusive ends.
We pray today for all of the animals who are sick or harmed
and for those who love them,
that they may find peace at the last and comfort in love shared and remembered.
We join our spirits in praise and thanks for those animals who live among us as guides and helpers to the disabled, rescuers of the lost and hurt, and companions to the suffering,
we thank them silently in our hearts,
knowing that love is the only language we share with them.

Creator Spirit, thank you for these, our animal friends, those present today, those we bring with us in our hearts this morning, and those who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge to that peaceful beyond.
Amen.

I think Ape was a very brave dog. But i don't think he deserved to die. He did die in the line of duty. I feel really bad that he got shot by the killer. He was only 2 years old a young dog. Really when you think Ape is the real hero in this story, not the police, state police or the FBI. Ape I think your the best.

It is unfortunate that he had a very short life. However he died doing his duty. I hope that his sacrifice saved a fellow team members life. I am sure he will not be forgotten.

A short life and career, but a Hero did his job to the fullest without question, saving lives and unfortunately paying the ultimate price.. In this day and age, we need more people like him, the newest Guardian Angel.

My daughter is a K-9 police officer in Richmond,Va. My wife and 2 daughters have lived in Hartwick NY not 30 miles from where Ape was shot. We've always had dogs usually black labs and this incident has hit me on more than several levels. It's comforting to me that my daughter has a dog (her name is Sophie) but it hurts me to know that a beautiful selfless dog is no longer protecting his owner and I know his partner feels that empty feeling that bypasses the intelect and pierces the heart. Sorry this happened and happened in my neck of the woods. May all K-9 officers who know this dog, know we feel it although maybe not as badly.

I wish I could hug you, Ape, but instead I have donated to the ASPCA in your memory, to help other dogs. You protected your team and all the rest of us from further harm. You are a true embodiment of "Strength and Honor". Thoughts are with your handler and other friends.

As a dog lover, I was saddened at the loss of Ape. He was a beautiful specimen of his breed. He was brave and willing to sacrifice himself to save others. I have shed tears for the victims, and also for Ape. His life had true meaning and will continue to live in my heart. My prayers for comfort to all those who had a part in his life. He is a hero, along with all those who risked their lives and continue to do so to protect us. Thank you! Thank you!
