Suki

K9 Suki died of heat exhaustion after the heat alarm in her handler's car failed.

Suki's handler had arrested two subjects and arrived at the police department's headquarters, at 1 Saw Mill River Parkway, at approximately 5:00 am to process the prisoners. One of the prisoners refused to identify himself and became combative multiple times, extending the normal processing time by several hours. Suki had been left in the police car during the time, but its heat alarm failed to activated as outside temperatures rose to approximately 70 degrees.

Suki's handler rushed her to a veterinary hospital where she was pronounced dead.

K9 Suki was a Labrador Retriever and served as a narcotics detection canine with the Westchester County Department of Public Safety for five years.
