K9 Cero was shot and killed after being released on a suspect in an active shooter incident.
The subject had thrown down a shotgun and started to flee on foot when Cero was deployed. As Cero bit him the man opened fire with a .22 caliber revolver, killing Cero.
Officers on scene returned fire, killing the man.
