Volunteer with COPS at Police Week

If you are planning on visiting Washington for Police Week this year, please consider giving a few hours of your time to volunteer at the survivor host hotels. Concerns of Police Survivors, the national organizaton responsible for directly assisting survivors of fallen officers, is in desperate need for volunteers throughout the week to assist survivors. There is no more meaningful way to remember our fallen brothers and sisters than by being there for their survivors during the week.

Below are some of the most needed volunteer opportunities:

May 11, 2008 9:00am until done
COPSSTORE setup begins with unloading of truck lower level of host hotel.

Set Up Day- May 12, 2008 Volunteers needed from 8:00am to approx 3:00pm 9:00am
Unload truck lower foyer back dock and take to marked areas on lower foyer of host hotel (Hilton Alexandria Mark Center 5000 Seminary Road, Alexandria, Virginia). Stuff tote bags and set up displays/tables in lower foyer and ballroom. Need at least 30 volunteers for this day.

Registration Day- May 13, 2008 Volunteers needed from 8:00am to 5:00pm
Registration starts at 9:00am but 9:00am volunteers need to be in ballroom at 8:30 am for a briefing by Trudy Chapman-Radley (she is in charge of the ballroom operations) with registration ending at 5:00pm; volunteers needed for information table 8:00am-5:00pm, NPC-50 raffle table; COPS raffle table; COPSWALK table 8am-5pm, meet and greet in lower foyer 8:30am -5:00pm, NLEOM wall 9:00am-5:00pm and assisting survivors to buses (upper foyer) beginning at 5:00pm. Need at least 90 volunteers for this day.

Opening Ceremonies / 1st Day of Seminars- May 14, 2008 Volunteers needed from 7:00am to 6:00pm
7:00am-4:30 pm late registration tables upper foyer ( people/law enforcement not interested in going to opening ceremony or sessions today); volunteers for tables(information,NPC-50 and COPS rafflles) lower foyer from 8:00am to 5:00pm; key intersection volunteers 1:30pm to approx 3:30pm- these volunteers need to encourage survivors to attend sessions and give directions to session rooms. Need at least 40 volunteers for this day.

Memorial Ceremony May 15, 2008 Volunteers needed from 8:00am to approx 11:00am
9:00am assist survivors to buses-information table (takes approx 2-3 hours) (volunteers not attending the memorial service should volunteer for this morning), 8am-11am information table;NPC-50 raffle table; COPS raffle table. Need at least 20 volunteers for this day.

2nd day of Seminars / Closing Ceremony May 16, 2008 Volunteers needed from 8:00am to approx 5:00pm
8:00am to 3pm information table; NPC-50 raffle table; COPS raffle table key intersections 8:00am to 12:00pm; COPSWALK Table 8:00am to 11:00am; tear down and load truck 4:00pm lower foyer; assist packing up COPS Store 4:00pm until? Need at least 20 volunteers for this day ESPECIALLY for tear down and loading of truck before the picnic.
