Cop on the Take

First he takes the oath.

Now look at all he takes.

He takes it in stride when people call him pig.

He takes time to stop and talk to children.

He takes your verbal abuse while giving you a ticket you really deserved.

He takes on creeps you would be afraid to even look at.

He takes time away from his family to keep you safe.

He takes your injured child to the hospital.

He takes the graveyard shift without complaint because it's his turn.

He takes his life into his hands daily.

He takes you home when your car breaks down.

He takes time to explain why both your headlights have to work.

He takes the job no one else wants--telling you a loved one has died.

He takes criminals to jail.

He takes in sights that would make you cry.

Sometimes he cries too, but he takes it anyway because someone has to.

If he is lucky, he takes retirement.

He takes memories to bed each night that you couldn't bear for even one day.

Sometimes, he takes a bullet.

And yes, occasionally he may take a free cup of coffee.

Then one day he pays for all he has taken, and God takes him.

Please remember that the "He" in all this represents all police officers, both men and women who have served and are serving our cities and their citizens we have all sworn to protect.

Blessed are the peace keepers!

Jamie

Sir, You were a much desired person in my life. One of great inspiration and admiration. Each and every day I learned something from you, and behind all of the things I learned was a reason, whether you wanted us to know it openly, or find it hidden. You taught me so much, things I will always use for the rest of my life, each and every day. I want to thank you sir, you're the father I never had. This tragic day when you left, was the day I reflected deeper than ever before. I will always remember you sir, and please teach those you encounter on your new found journey everything you have taught me, as I know when you got to the the gates of Heaven, you already received your wings to fly free! Take Care sir, and I'll see you when I get there, rest in peace.

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Constable Agostinho er for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

While it is no consolation for your loss, our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow Constables of Constable Agostinho.

While no member of our agency had the privilege to have known him personally, we are certain that he has found a place in heaven through his selfless service to those he swore to protect.

Rest in peace officer; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

I remember Jose from many years ago as a member of the CF and as an RCMP Officer. While posted in Cold Lake Jose was an inspiration to many a young serviceman and women in the Air Force. Even though he had retired from the CF and commenced with his new career in the RCMP he was still one of the Air Forces biggest boosters. He was an inspiring presence at our squadron mess dinners and encouraged the young members to make the most of their careers and never settle for second place. I am proud to count Jose as one of my friends and my life is better because he was a part of it.

TO: The family; loved ones; friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER:--- O, gentle Lord ! Keep the day/night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent upon me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer; and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well. AMEN. *** REST IN PEACE ***

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003 in the USA. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Jose did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Jose be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Constable Agostinho's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through these tough times, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone in your "journey". Should you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. (Dennis' department will also always know how to reach me.)

As a fallen officer "survivour" and a fellow Canadian please accept my condolences. I never got the opportunity to know Jose but, I am certain Jose was well respected and well loved by everyone who's life he touched. You were lucky to have had him be a part of your lives. I am certain that Jose will continue to watch over us all as only he can.

Thank you Constable Agostinho for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)
