Corporal Arseneault was setting up cones to block off the left lane of Highway 15 south, when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle. A bus had broken down in the left lane near the Curé-Labelle exit. A Provincial highway department (Ministere des Transports du Quebec) worker was also hit and killed in the incident. Corporal Arseneault's partner was not hurt, but was treated for a nervous shock.

One of his brother is a retired Captain, another brother and a nephew are active officers, all 3 from the Sûreté du Québec.

Corporal Arseneault had 32 years of service at the time of his death.
