In a continuing rebellion by the natives which began in Duck Lake, NWT and continued to Frog Lake, Fort Pitt and Cut Knife Hill. Not long after the battle at Cut Knife Hill there was a Battle at Batoche. On May 12, the rebellion was over. The natives began to scatter. A scout patrol from Battleford came under attack. Five Mounties came under fire by a rogue band of Indians.
The natives believed that the troop were advance scouts for the enemy. The officers were outnumbered and retreated. Constable Elliott became separated from the rest of the men and fought to the death. He died from gunshot wounds. Related Line of Duty Deaths |  |
